About
“Painting is from this day dead!” French painter, Paul Delarouche was shocked by what he saw in 1839. Delarouche was among the first to view Louis Daguerre’s new invention, the daguerreotype, the first attempt to capture and preserve a photographic image. Though the demise of painting was an overreaction on Delarouche’s part, the daguerreotype did have a dramatic impact on the future of recording images.
Fast forward to the 21st century. Photographs are everywhere…on the internet, along our highways, in magazines and on social media. We live in a visual world...and it’s photographs that enable us to remember, experience and understand the world we inhabit.
